:: restored art treasures from the 3D lab

How can today’s 3D techniques cope with complex tasks, which arise
when cultural assets are supplemented or reconstructed?

Researchers at the 3D lab of HDU - Deggendorf University of Applied Sciences
are currently looking for possibilities to accurately reconstruct wooden figures,
which had been partly or completely burnt by means of historical photographs
as well as by using modern 3D-techniques.

Subject of the research works is currently, in regards to art history, the very
significant Evangelist figures from the Theatine Church in Munich. The entire
church along with the four Baroque figures was damaged heavily during
World War II.

The arising challenge regarding the preservation of ancient monuments now consists
of reaching satisfying results by using these methods. This is necessary in order to
match as closely as possible the outstanding quality of the original sculptures.

This homepage gives a short overview of the project and the previous
research results.
